The Fall And Rise of British Painting,

1968-2018

1.30 pm,  Monday  January 8th 2018

This is a special lecture to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of NADFAS (now renamed The Arts Society).  ‘From the nadir of the 1970s, when it seemed painting as an art form was doomed, through the YBA years of the 1990s, painters and their supporters battled to  keep alive an age-old tradition… Against all the odds, painting is alive and well in Britain today, and this lecture celebrates this remarkable achievement.’

Lecturer:   This is a return visit to our society for James Russell. After studying history at Cambridge, and ‘a lengthy stint’ selling contemporary paintings and sculpture in Santa Fe, New Mexico, he developed a career writing and lecturing on 20th century painting and design, for which he is a passionate advocate.

Date and Time:  1.30 pm.,  Monday  January 8th 2018

Venue:  The Assembly Rooms, Bennett St, Bath BA1 2QH

Visitors Welcome - £10.00 at the door
