Visits and Trips

Throughout the year The Arts Society Bath’s Members enjoy a number of visits organised by our Committee..

Our first sold-out outing last season took place in November, to the Holburne Museum Bath for a visit to the Exhibition, ’The Art of Perception” followed by tea and cake in the cafe.

Our next visit to the Holburne  is on Monday 29th October 2018 at 2.30pm. The exhibition ‘Gainsborough and the Theatre” brings together some of the Artist’s finest portraits. Click on the the flyer on the home page for information on how to buy your tickets.  Cost £15.50 including the exhibition tea and cake.

In March a group from The Arts Society Bath went by train on a day trip to Southampton. We were led on a very interesting walk around the old part of the city by Blue Badge Guide Susan Parslow, whose knowledge of the history of Southampton added depth to our understanding of what we were seeing. It encompassed the medieval walls and buildings, links to Jane Austen, SeaCity Museum [includes Titanic exhibition], the City Art Gallery and of course the modern shopping centre.  A surprising amount of the medieval city wall still exists, as well as historic sites connected with such diverse events as the departure of Henry V for France, the life of Jane Austen and the sailing of the Titanic. After the guided walk, there was free time so that people could enjoy the city at their own pace. Some chose to linger in the older part of the city and visit the well-preserved Tudor House, others made for the City Art Gallery, whilst a few of us enjoyed the delights of John Lewis - there was something for everyone!

The day was very successful and everyone enjoyed it so we will hope to organise a similar event in 2019.

Following our successful trip to London to see ‘The Dresser', this year we had tickets to see  the sumptuous ‘The King and I’ at London Palladium. Our group travelled by train and enjoyed a meal together before returning home. We are arranging another theatre trip this season, members who wouldn’t otherwise go to the theatre in London enjoy this group outing.

Our February 2019 lecturer Jonathan Foyle will talk to us about “Windsor: The Greatest Castle in the World” and we are planning to follow this up with a day trip to the Castle (information to follow so watch this space!)
